The GWFC is helping to create a First Nations food and medical plant garden around the new Carving Pavilion at Britannia Community Centre which will have a strong educational component. We would like to convene a couple of visioning sessions as part of the garden planning. We currently have a landscaper/designer, a First Nations herbalist and an artist who can help us with some landscape drawing plans. We are also looking for a few more people to join us.

Fresh Roots is an organization that grows delicious veggies in Vancouver schoolyard gardens. Growing food at schools allows them to provide learning opportunities and hands-on training for youth and neighbours. They grow an abundance of salad greens and salad toppings from arugula to radishes and sell them at their Good Food Markets. Stop by their market stand to bring home some fresh and local veggies!

How does beekeeping play an essential role in sustainable farming? How can you incorporate bees into your urban farm? What special considerations need to be taken into account before introducing a hive in an urban context?
This hands-on and interactive workshop, presented by Hives for Humanity, will introduce participants to the basics of beekeeping, particularly in an urban farming context. Beekeeping is an effective activity for establishing trust, developing communication skills and team building; it is an excellent way to engage in self-care and discover the “meditation of the beekeeper” as you take a moment to slow down, observe, connect with nature and ultimately with yourself. As the bees work together, in synchronicity, for the greater good of the colony, it inspires people to do the same.
Workshop details include:
> Introduction to beekeeping and hands-on hive inspection
> Sensory stroll of Hastings Urban Farm and Pollinator Meadow (experience
the smells, tastes and textures of the garden)

PURPOSE
The Food and Education Department (FED) has taken a critical look at the educational programs at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. An opportunity exists to combine and revitalize the current activities of existing programs and create new programming to better reflect the new vision and mission of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB).
Vision: Accessible, healthy and sustainable food for all.
Mission: To empower people to nourish themselves by providing access to healthy food, education and training.
DESCRIPTION
Our newly developed program area is called Food and Education for All. This program will have three key activities:
1. Community Kitchens
2. Food and Cooking Demonstrations
3. Food Preservation
Each of these three activities will have front line, train-the-trainer and mentorship components. People can build on their food skills through a facilitated front line activity and then, if interested, move into the train-the-trainer and mentorship activities.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) invites applications for a full time regular faculty position in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems in Richmond, BC. Areas of expertise appropriate for this position include but are not limited to agroecology and cropping/farm systems, agronomic crop production, forage production and pasture management, market crop production, and agricultural economics and farm business management.

We are seeking new resident farmer(s) to join us for the 2016 season. As a Community Farm, GVOFC members collaborate to negotiate agreements and manage our operations. We strive for respectful relationships. We are looking for people with a viable business proposal for the organic farming of 4+ fertile acres.

The Grandview Woodlands Food Connection is a grassroots food security group supporting residents to access healthy and affordable food. We are developing a number of community based food initiatives, including community gardening, bulk buying groups, school gardens, canning workshops,community kitchens and more.
We are currently seeking community members interested in helping us with our Off the Grill youth meal program (chef mentor), media, graphic design, Wordpress web support, Advisory Committee, gardeners, and fundraising event organization. What is a Pick Leader?
“Pick Leaders” help volunteers get the fruit from the tree to the charity! They arrange equipment and transportation details (with MODO car co-op, your own vehicle, or by bike), and lead a safe and fun pick with volunteers. Then they deliver the fruit to the community partner.
Why become a Pick Leader?
Help contribute to food security and make a difference in your community. This position is at the heart of the Fruit Tree Project, without Pick Leaders we couldn’t do it. Gain the deep satisfaction of diverting food from waste to those who need it. It’s also an amazing opportunity to lead a team, pick up some skills, meet great people and eat fresh fruit while you do it!
What is expected of me?
Pick Leaders are asked to commit to 4-5 picks per season. The season is July-October.
How does it work?
After a training and orientation session, you will receive emails from the coordinator with details about upcoming picks that are in need of a Pick Leader. Simply email back when you can lead a pick, so you can make it suit your schedule.
