Eat it Forward Community Food Market, Grandview Park - The Grandview Woodland Food Connection is proud to partner with the Eat It Forward Markets Society (EIFMS) in the establishment of a new community food market in Grandview Park. This market has an explicit food access mandate, ensuring that healthy, nutritious, local and socially-just food is available to community members who are struggling financially to become more food secure.

The Eat it Forward Market table will provide organic food at 30% and 80% discounted rates for lower income residents. Individuals and households that qualify will be issued memberships much like a buying club. As such, the market is helping to provide dignified food access by providing food choice, affordability, and organic quality and helping to ensure that all community members have equal access to good food.

The Eat it Forward market will run weekly on Sundays all year, from 11 am – 6 pm at Grandview Park on Commercial Drive.

Jobs

1. LANDED LEARNING COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT

The Intergenerational Landed Learning Project is hiring a Communications Assistant and has extended our application deadline to Thursday, September 11! We are looking for someone who has skills in web design and photography and is available Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The ideal candidate need not have previous interest/experience in garden-based learning, but must be a UBC student. job posting (Work/Learn) with any students who might be interested and qualified.

2. MEAL EXCHANGE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - TORONTO

At Meal Exchange, we believe that post-secondary campuses are an ideal leverage point for tackling food security and sustainability in Canada, and that student leaders have the power to drive this change. We provide these students with mentorship and resources, and connect them with their peers and stakeholders across the country.

The students we support are achieving landmark changes in campus contracts, policies, and culture, and the demand and potential for our work is growing exponentially. We are confident that a tipping point for transforming food on campus is within reach over the next 5-10 years, and that Meal Exchange is positioned to play an essential role in achieving this systemic change.

However, we have some serious work to do to get there. Meal Exchange is in a period of transition. We’re shifting programming from our foundation in the charity model of hunger relief, towards a focus on food systems and the root causes of food insecurity. We’re also redeveloping and diversifying our financing model, including adding fee-for-service programming and working to bring in a new group of core supporters. With these changes in programming and funding, comes a need to update our identity, and make sure that our our network, past and present, understand and feel a part of this evolution.

We’re looking for a leader who’s ready to dream with us, and work together to build the programming, resources, and identity we need to make this dream a reality.
